About Eco-Club

Ashfield Girls' Eco-Club was established eight years ago. The Eco-Angels meet once a week to discuss environmental issues and participate in a range of related practical activities.

For the last 7 years we have been involved in the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award Scheme. The Eco-Club have applied for and achieved three ‘Green Flag Awards’. The Green Flag award is the highest accolade awarded by the Eco-Schools Programme.

Last year, the Eco-Angels also achieved the 'Discover' level of the John Muir Award Scheme. This scheme was delivered in school with the support of a team from the East Belfast Area Partnership. The girls completed 28 hours of related activities in order to achieve this award.

In the past 5 years, the Eco-Angels have also participated in the Belfast City Council Anti- Litter Competitions. We were runner up in both the ‘Writing for Radio’ and ‘Litter Camera Action’ competitions. Last year we were highly commended for our entries to the ‘Write up your street’ competition. The girls won young saplings which they have planted in the schools’ nature and wildlife area.
