Physical Education

Learning is not a spectator sport, so let’s get active.

Introduction

The PE Department’s aim is to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which our pupils may thrive and achieve their potential. We aim to develop a passion for physical activity through an extensive programme that will encourage lifelong participation.

All pupils in Years 8-14 take part in PE lessons. There are exam courses available for pupils to choose in Years 11-14.

Pupils can avail of an extensive after school programme that complements their PE lessons. We encourage the use of technology within lessons and make use of departmental iPads to evaluate performance at all key stages.

Key Stage 3

All pupils in Years 8-10 follow the new revised curriculum for KS3 Physical Education.

In Years 8-9 pupils take part in gymnastics, netball, hockey, athletics and tennis.

In Year 10 pupils learn about health related fitness and badminton as well as further developing their skills in netball, athletics and tennis.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 we offer a wide range of health related fitness activities including, rowing, step aerobics, circuits and use of the fitness suite. Pupils take part in games activities as well as tennis and badminton.

At KS4 we offer BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport. This course provides an engaging and relevant introduction to the world of sport. It incorporates important aspects of the industry, such as fitness testing and training for sport and exercise, the psychology of sport, practical sports performance and sports leadership. It enables learners to develop and apply their knowledge, while also developing a range of relevant practical, communication and technical skills.

Key Stage 5

At Key Stage 5 pupils can progress to BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport.

This course has been developed in the sport and active leisure sector to:
